Full-time Vegetable Farm Workers wanted for Summer, 2022
Location: Shoshone River Farm
5002 US highway14A Cody, Wyoming

Pay: Depends on Experience
Dates: April 15th – November 1st

Job description: farm hand tasks may include but are not limited to: bed preparation, planting, watering, weeding, thinning, transplanting, potting, harvesting, processing/cleaning, and packaging of vegetable crops as directed. Weeding, harvesting and processing activities happen all summer and require extended periods of walking, bending, squatting, as well as lifting up to 60lbs. Farm hands are expected to use hand tools such as shovels, hoes, rakes and seeders. Farm workers must be capable of working in the sun/rain and understand how to properly protect themselves from the elements; this includes providing your own boots, gloves, hats, sunscreen, water bottle etc. Preference will be given to those who are comfortable working with small machinery such as rototillers, flame-weeders, weed-eaters etc. However, we will train farm hands to use this equipment as needed. Opportunities to develop skills and personal interests as related to farm activities are encouraged and will be given when possible. At the farm, we expect that all employees treat each other, volunteers, and customers with respect and have a willingness to support one another in accomplishing tasks and goals.

About the farm: Shoshone River Farm is a 4.5-acre diversified vegetable farm located 8 miles North of Cody, Wyoming.  We are currently in our 14th year of providing produce to the Bighorn Basin. The farm grows vegetables for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) where members come to the farm each week and pick-up produce. We also deliver produce to weekly farmer’s markets as well as local businesses, restaurants, food hubs and food banks. Biointensive methods are practiced at the farm through the implementation of an intensive composting system which includes green waste and manure from the surrounding area. We do not use herbicides and only use a few biological pesticides which are approved through organic growing standards. Early plantings are supported by six greenhouses, two of which are  in Cody. Workers may spend some time at this location, especially at the beginning of the season. At the farm, there are 9 high tunnels (in addition to the greenhouses) which help extend the season and provide better growing conditions for warm weather crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers. In addition to indoor crops, the farm also grows outdoor crops which include about 50 different vegetable species. Situated at the base of McCullough Peaks, the farm is provided with beautiful scenery which can be enjoyed while you work.

If you are interested in getting internship credits as part of your work experience, we would be happy to make that happen. However, we would encourage you to get this work approved by your advisor beforehand to ensure this will work for your program.
